With great disappointment, USTA Southern California is announcing the postponement of the 118th Junior Sectional Championships, scheduled to begin on Saturday, July 25.
The Section has consulted regularly with local officials and facility directors to seek a course of action that would allow our talented young players to return to competition for what is one of the most anticipated junior tournaments of the year.
However, the alarming increase in recent COVID-19 cases throughout our region has prompted municipalities to enact mandatory limitations on large gatherings, and in some cases, youth sports, which in turn impacted the facilities that were scheduled to host the 2020 Junior Sectional Championships.
A new date for Junior Sectionals will be considered later in 2020, if possible.
Most importantly, we hope that our amazing junior players and their families will understand the circumstances behind this very difficult decision. Junior Sectionals is unquestionably one of the most exciting annual events on the tournament schedule, and we take great pride in witnessing the growth of our young players amidst the pageantry of this historic event.
USTA Southern California encourages all of our juniors to remain safe and healthy this summer, as we work behind the scenes to develop our competitive calendar for the remainder of the year. We look forward to welcoming you back to the court as soon as possible.
