USTA Leagues: San Diego

A current USTA membership (approx. $45) and a rating are required for most USTA League activity in San Diego. League fees are $30 unless otherwise noted, while the fee for a team captain is only pay $3. Most leagues are played on the weekends, but weekday leagues may also be offered. If you are interested in a league below, please contact your Area League Coordinator (listed above) and we will work to find you a team.

Women’s Weekend: Best of 3 sets with 10-point match tiebreak in lieu of third set

  • Season: Mid-June through August (Summer)
  • 3 mixed doubles matches
  • NTRP combined levels 7.0, 8.0, 9.0  (i.e. 7.0 level could be two 3.5 players or a 3.0 & 4.0 player)
  • Men and women play together on teams
  • Players must turn at least 40 years old during the calendar year to be eligible
  • Best of 3 sets with 10-point match tiebreak in lieu of third set
  • Roster maximum 16 players
  • Local league winners advance to Sectionals; Sectional winners advance to Nationals

8.0= Noon; 7.0/ 9.0= 2:30PM

  • Season: Mid-June through August (Summer)

  • Men and women play on separate teams
  • Players turn at least 55 years old during the calendar year to be eligible

  • Roster maximum 16 players
  • Local league winners advance to Sectionals; Sectional winners advance to Nationals.

  • Players must turn at least 55 years old during the calendar year to be eligible
  • Best of 3 sets with 10-point match tiebreak in lieu of third set
  • Roster maximum 16 players
  • Local league may be combined SD/ SDNC 
  • Local league winners may advance to Section Invitational in December; Winner may advance to a National Invitational in April 2022

7.0, 9.0= Noon,  8.0= 2:30PM

  • Season: Mid-May through July (Late Spring/Summer)
  • 3 doubles matches
  • NTRP combination levels 6.0, 7.0, 8.0, 9.0 (i.e. 7.0 level could be two 3.5 players or a 3.0 & 4.0 player)
  • Men and women play on separate teams
  • Players turn at least 65 years old during the calendar year to be eligible
  • Best of 3 sets with 10-point match tiebreak in lieu of third set
  • Roster maximum 16 players
  • Local league winners advance to Sectionals; Sectional winners advance to National Invitational in early 2022

Details of play:

Men: Sat Noon

Women: Mon= 8.0, Wed= 7.0 

(Start times are mornings but adjusted for travel if combined league with SD)

  • Season: Mid- June through August (Summer)
  • 3 doubles matches at different NTRP levels; players compete at their own level 
  • Two NTRP options– 4.5/4.0/3.5 or 4.0/3.5/3.0
    NTRP 5.0/4.5/4.0 (may be customized)
  • Men and women play on separate teams
  • Players must 18 to be eligible
  • Best of 3 sets with 10-point match tiebreak in lieu of third set
  • Roster maximum 16 players
  • Local league winners advance to Sectionals; Sectional winners advance to an Invitational

Details of play:

Men: Sunday morning  (4.5/4.0/3.5 only)

Women Weekend: Sunday afternoon

Women Weekday:

4.5/ 4.0/ 3.5 Friday morning

4.0/ 3.5/ 3.0 Wednesday morning

  • Men’s and Women’s Weekend Doubles, Girls’ Night Out evening play and Holiday League weekday play)
  • Season: September through mid- December (Fall)
  • 3 doubles matches
  • NTRP levels 3.0, 3.5, 4.0, 4.5, Open
  • Men and women play on separate teams
  • Players must 18 to be eligible
  • Best 2 out of 3 full sets 

Women’s Weekend: Best of 3 sets with 10-point match tiebreak in lieu of third set

Girls’ Night Out: Match tiebreak in lieu of 3rd set and Timed Matches due to lighted courts

  • Roster maximum 16 players
  • Local league winners advance to Sectionals.

Open level Sectional winner may attend a National Invitational Event.

Women Weekend: Sunday afternoons

Holiday League (Nov/Dec) 

Women Weekday mornings (2x/ week):

  • Season: September through November

Play on Saturday afternoons

  • 3 mixed doubles matches, each line at different combined NTRP levels
  • 2 level options:
    – NTRP 9.0/ 8.0/ 7.0 or NTRP 8.0/ 7.5/ 7.0
    (i.e. 8.0 level could be two 4.0 players or a 4.5 & 3.5 player)
  • Men and women play together
  • Players must 18 to be eligible
  • Best 2 out of 3 full sets
  • Roster maximum 18 players
  • Local league only, but postseason play may be available for the higher level. Local league may be combined SD/ SDNC.

Saturday afternoons

9.0/ 8.0/ 7.0= Noon; 8.0/ 7.5/ 7.0= 2:30PM

  • 4 seasons per year  (Friday Nights)

    • January/March
    • April/June
    • July/Sept
    • October/December
  • 3 mixed doubles matches at different NTRP levels
  • 3 flights – NTRP 4.0/3.5/3.0, 4.5/4.0/3.5 
  • Men and women play together
  • Players must 18 to be eligible
  • Best of 3 sets with 10-point match tiebreak in lieu of third set
  • Local League Only –  with travelling trophy presentation at the end of the year
  • Majority of play is supported by private facilities with membership required
  • 3 Seasons: 
    • Winter/Spring: February- May
    • Summer: June- August 
    • Fall: September- December
  • Social play- does not count toward NTRP ratings
  • NTRP levels 3.0, 3.5 (4.0 level based on interest)
  • Men and women play in separate leagues
  • Players must be 18 to be eligible
  • Best of 3 sets with 10-point match tiebreak in lieu of third set
  • Coordinate play when it’s convenient for you and your opponent. You will have home and away matches.
  • USTA Membership not required but fees are discounted for current members.

Area Rules

Team captains and players are responsible for understanding the rules that govern our leagues. Each local league area has a set of rules for league play, however USTA League is largely built on the National and Sectional regulations. You can find all of that information here.

Captain Resources

Captains are a very important part of the USTA League program. Leading a league team is undoubtedly a lot of work, but we hope it’s also a rewarding commitment that serves both your team and tennis as a whole. Whether you’re just starting out or you’re a veteran captain, we are here to help you lead your teams to victory on and off the court!

Area Recognition

USTA Southern California appreciates and honors those who go above and beyound to make our Leagues the best in the nation! Consider nominating a fellow League player for one of our Player Recognition awards!

Sportsmanship Awards

It’s time to recognize players and captains who demonstrate good sportsmanship before, during, and after matches. Please take a moment and nominate somebody for your area’s Sportsmanship Award. All nominees wil be acknowledged and congratulated on this site. Each season, a winner will be selected from among the nominees, and that person will receive a gift of appreciation from USTA Southern California! Visit the nomination page

League Captain of the Year

USTA Southern California understands the value in recognizing and honoring our outstanding USTA League Captains. Without captains, we would have no leagues! The Captain of the Year program honors exceptional captains from each of our 13 league areas. Then, from that pool of award winners, the Section selects an overarching USTA Southern California Captain of the Year. All honorees are celebrated at an annual USTA SoCal banquet.
