Announcement on USTA SoCal Adult Leagues

UPDATE 6/25 Suspension of Tournament Play Through July

Please consult your Area League Coordinator for updates on League activities.

In various formats, public and private tennis activity has begun to resume across Southern California. As local guidelines and facilities begin to allow for non-member play and non-family member doubles play, USTA Southern California Area League Coordinators will begin preparing for our next season of USTA Leagues.

These preparations will include determining the readiness of each League Area to resume programming in a manner consistent with responsible safety procedures as outlined by the USTA Facility and Player Guidelines. The Section has announced a resumption of USTA activities beginning July 1.

Once an Area is approved, the Area League Coordinator will determine whether to schedule the remaining matches from the Winter Leagues or confirm a local league winner using Games Won Percentage. This schedule will begin on or after July 1. At this time, local league play may also begin.

The Section is targeting September 1 to begin section-wide play for the new fall advancing leagues. This will include the Adult 18 & Over League, which is normally held in the spring, and a new 3-line Fall Mixed 18 & Over league. We understand this new, later start date for the Adult 18 & Over League may cause some frustration, but we hope hosting this league in the fall will make for a better player experience.

As most of you have heard, USTA National has cancelled all of the 2020 National Championships. The Section realizes the significance of postseason play and we hope to host Southern California Sectional Championships as follows:

Winter Mixed 18 and Over Doubles – 3 lines of doubles – to be scheduled in September, October or November
Winter Adult 40 and Over – 1 singles and 2 doubles – to be scheduled in September, October or November
Fall Adult 18 and Over – 1 singles and 2 doubles – to be scheduled in January or February 2021
Fall Mixed 18 and Over Doubles – 3 lines of doubles – to be scheduled in January or February 2021
Adult 65 and Over – 3 lines of doubles – TBD pending the 65 and Over Invitational
League players should expect correspondence from your Area League Coordinator outlining the full league offerings in your area. The following options will be available for those of you with pending Spring registrations in the system: 1) You can hold your registration for an upcoming 2020 League 2) You can request a credit to be applied to your TennisLink account for a 2021 League (option available July 1, more info coming soon) or 3) You can request a refund here. Please note that refunds do not include the $3 processing fee).

We find ourselves in an uncertain and ever-changing environment that creates a different set of circumstances in each of our League Areas. Our intention is to move forward with the above programming as outlined. However, player and provider safety and adherence to municipal laws will not be ignored. Thus, should the environment change and COVID-19 cases spike, we may have to adjust our plans yet again.

We appreciate your understanding and hope to see you out on the courts soon.
