From one of the northernmost points on the USTA Southern California section map to one of its most southern locations in north San Diego County, two clubs will host ITF World Tour and USTA Pro Circuit W75 tournaments offering $60,000 in singles and doubles prize money over the next two weeks.

Some 325 miles separate the Templeton Tennis Ranch just south of Paso Robles in San Luis Obispo County and the Rancho Santa Fe Tennis Club. Since 2017, TTR owner Ralph Goehring and CEO Chris Fouquet have put on the popular EPIC Central Coast Tennis Classic and starting Monday will once again host WTA players ranked from No. 85 in the world to No. 275.

At the Rancho Santa Fe Open Sept. 30-Oct. 6, RSF Tennis Club General Manager John Chanfreau is the tournament director for the tourney’s fourth straight year.

Mexico’s Renata Zarazua is expected to be the top-seeded player in both tournaments and is last year’s Central Coast Classic singles finalist and currently sits at No. 85 in the world.

If last year’s results are any indication, these two events will feature the WTA Grand Slam stars of tomorrow. At Templeton, last year’s singles champion Taylor Townsend won the Wimbledon doubles title, and also making some noise at the All-England Club in July was RSF Open singles finalist Lulu Sun from New Zealand who made it all the way to the quarterfinals beating last year’s RSF Open singles winner Yulia Starodubtseva from Ukraine along the way at Wimbledon.

After Zarazua the other top players in the Templeton field include: Canada’s Rebecca Marino (No. 139), American’s Kayla Day (No. 164), Ellie Mandlik (No. 166) and Usus Arconada (No. 173). Former UCLA products Ena Shibahara and Robin Anderson are also entered into the main draw.

Wild cards for Templeton include Katrina Scott, Lauren Davis, and Battle in the Bay winner Anastasiia Lopata from the University of Georgia. The local Cal Poly doubles team of Peyton Dunkle and Amy Leather received a wild card. Dunkle is a senior from Arroyo Grande and Leather is a redshirt sophomore from England.

At Rancho Santa Fe, 18-year-old American-born Aussie sensation Maya Joint will follow Zarazua in the seedings and she is ranked No. 111 in the world. Joint, a freshman at the University of Texas, is one of 12 players competing who are currently in the world top 200. The main draw entry list includes Southern California players Kayla Day (Santa Barbara), Shibahara (Rancho Palos Verdes) and Hanna Chang (Fontana).

In qualifying, SoCal players include Carson Branstine (Orange), Iva Jovic (Torrance), Madison Sieg (USC), Scott (Woodland Hills), Haley Giavara (San Diego) and Julieta Pareja (Carlsbad).
