Schedule Opens as Sectional, FLEX Events Kick Off Summer

UPDATE 7/10: Junior Sectionals Postponed

UPDATE 6/25: Tournament Play Suspended in July

USTA Tournaments are back on a court near you in Southern California! Competitive players seeking tournament play will be pleased to find a variety of events on the July and August schedule, including convenient FLEX competition and much anticipated Sectional championships.

Adult players in various regions are encouraged to register for FLEX tournaments in July. These popular events allow players to schedule their own weekly matches at a mutual site on their own schedule, within a given time frame. Aimed at Men’s and Women’s singles players with NTRP ratings 3.5, 4.0, and 4.5, the FLEX brackets begin the week of July 13, concluding with a championship event on August 30.

FLEX tournaments will be available in Ventura, Beach Cities, San Diego, and San Gabriel Valley.

Competitive junior players will gear up for 118th USTA Southern California Junior Sectional Championships, which begin on July 25. Learn more about Junior Sectionals here.

Tentative dates for Open Sectionals have been announced, with the Section’s top 18+ competition set to begin on August 3. Divisions include Men’s and Women’s singles and doubles, Mixed doubles, Father/Son and Father/Daughter doubles, Mother/Son and Mother/Daughter doubles, and Husband-Wife doubles.

The 118th Junior Sectionals and Southern California Open Sectionals are part of the 2020 USTA SoCal Signature Series.

Southern California facilities hosting USTA programs will be required to maintain stringent precautionary protocols from sanitization to limiting indoor spaces and other prevention techniques. Making an assessment of whether a safe exercise environment can be provided depends on a range of factors, which apply differently at each venue. It is the responsibility of each tennis provider, coach and facility to make that assessment based on their local environment.

USTA Tennis programming will conform to the State of California, and relevant county and city guidelines governing outdoor recreation and/or tennis. These guidelines currently include social distancing, certain restrictions on doubles play, and wearing masks off the court.
