Captains must fill out and submit a Sectional Championship Registration Form  once the Area League Coordinator has confirmed their advancement. Registration forms must be submitted no later than 2 weeks prior to the event. 

Team Fee – $125

All teams must be able to field full teams.  If you cannot field a full team (7 players) or if your team is unable to participate, advise your Area League Coordinator immediately.  Teams that drop out and fail to complete the event once it has started, can result in loss of future rights to play in the USTA Southern California League program.   

Penalties may be given at the discretion of the Championship Director and Committee. (Refer to the USTA League Regulations 2.03K/2.03L –Team Defaults).  (Exceptions may include: illness, injury, or personal emergency).

    • All team members must have current USTA Memberships through the last day of championship play.  Players can renew or check expirations at membership.usta.com.  
    • There will be random Photo ID checks throughout Sectionals.
    • Minimum # of players required for a full team:  7 Players for the 4 – line formats
    • Minimum number of matches required to advance past local league: 2 played matches one of which can be a default.  (NOTE: Minimum number of matches required to advance to Nationals: 2 played matches none of which can be a default.)
    • The NTRP Level of all individual team members must be from the appropriate level of play in accordance with the NTRP system.

Each player must have signed waiver on file to be eligible to participate. Failure to do so may result in match default or reversal.

A match will consist of 1 singles and 3 doubles positions (3.0-4.5 levels) 

    • All matches played will be the best of three sets, with regular scoring and a set tiebreak (first to 7 by 2) at 6-all in each set.  In the event of split sets, a deciding match tiebreak (first to 10 by 2) shall be played in lieu of a third set.  The Coman Tiebreak Rotation (change ends after the first point and every 4 points thereafter) will be used for all Set and Match TiebreaksTwo-minute rest between the 1st and 2nd set and between the 2nd set and a Match Tiebreak.
    • Flighted Divisions will participate in a round-robin format within their flight.  The winner of each flight will be determined by team matches won.  In the event of a tie, the tie will be broken by the first of the following procedures:
      • Individual Matches: Winner of the most individual matches
      • Head-to-Head: Winner of head-to-head match
      • Sets: Loser of the fewest number of sets
      • Games: Loser of the fewest number of games
      • A method to be determined by the championship committee

3.0 Men – round robin flight play.  Flight winners advance to a single elimination bracket.

4.0 Men – round robin flight play.  Flight winners advance to a single elimination bracket.

3.0 Women – round robin flight play.   Flight winners advance to a single elimination bracket.

4.0 Women – round robin flight play.  Flight winners  and three best second place teams advance to a single elimination bracket.

  • Captains should check in at the tournament desk and collect their scorecards no later than 15 minutes before match time. The Tournament Desk must be notified if there are any defaults or missing player issues.  
  • All players listed on the scorecard must be onsite and ready to play once the scorecard is turned in.
  • Once turned in, line-ups cannot be changed without the approval of the championship director.
  • Match order is determined by the Tournament Desk.
  •  
  • Immediately after an individual match is finished, a player from each team reports and confirms the score at the tournament desk.  
  • Upon the completion of the individual matches, both captains must verify the scores and sign the match scorecard.  
  • Score discrepancies will be addressed at that time.  If only one captain signed the scorecard and there is a discrepancy, those results may be FINAL.

Rest in between matches is dependent on when a player finishes their match and when their next match is scheduled. Other individual matches can start prior to the resting players adjusted start time.  When playing singles or doubles to doubles players are given a minimum rest time of 30 minutes.  When playing singles to singles players are given a minimum rest time of one hour.

Winning teams will be eligible to participate in the USTA Adult 18 & Over  National Championships.  Details and Information will be provided to the 2021 Championship teams.  If the winning team at any NTRP level of competition is unable to compete further, then the second-place team will be asked to take their spot.  Link to 2021 League National Information 

Roving umpires are officials who exercise jurisdiction over more than one court.  Their duties are similar to those of a chair umpire and include but are not limited to the following:

      • Ensuring that assigned courts are ready for play
      • Enforcing the warm-up time and Point Penalty System
      • Resolving scoring disputes
      • Overruling line calls and calling foot faults when they are in direct observation of the courts
      • Controlling spectators
