Virtual Summer Camp: Science of Sport – Tennis

USTA Southern California and the SCTA Foundation are excited to partner with Science of Sport, a virtual classroom based on STEM curriculum – Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics. The eight-week Science of Sport online summer camp kicked off on June 8. Registration for the tennis curriculum, scheduled for July 27-31, is now open.

Designed for students in grades 3 thru 8, Science of Sport examines the cerebral side of athletics. The program describes itself as “translat(ing) the love of each sport into an appreciation, understanding, and passion of the science and mathematics underlying the sport.” Along with tennis, featured five-day sessions include golf, football, baseball, and soccer.

During the tennis session beginning July 27, students will engage in hands-on and interactive concepts such as Newton’s Laws of Motion, aerodynamics, nutrition, hydration, and geometry. Instructor-led academic activities will be supplemented with athletic activities.

USTA Southern California is pleased to offer the discount code USTASOCAL2020 for USTA members for a $25 discount. Each time the code is used, the SCTA Foundation will receive a $50 donation from Science of Sport. The Foundation supports programs that utilize tennis as a vehicle to make a positive impact on our communities and the lives of people of all ages, ability, ethnicity, and economic background.
